Sanford’s German roots: Museum reflects on city’s German heritage with historical storytelling event

Joseph Zapf (left) was one of Sanford’s leading businessmen who immigrated to the United States from the German State Wurttemberg, in the 1883. Zapf would move to Sanford in 1890 and become the supplier for Anheuser- Busch. John J Mauser, originally immigrated to Tampa from Germany to enter in the cigar business (above), Mauser eventually moved to Sanford in the 1911’s due to cigar strikes.
