James Wright, Sr.
James Wright, Sr., of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away on January 17, 2024, surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on July 30, 1942 in Sanford , Florida, to the late Mr. David Wright, Sr. and Mrs. Pearl Thompson Wright. James is preceded in death by his brothers Mr. David Wright and Mr. Tommie S. Wright; Sisters Mrs. Julia Wright Downes, Ms. Bernice Wright, Mrs. Lena Wright Peterson and Ms. Rachel Wright.
James attended Goldsboro Elementary School in Sanford and graduated from Crooms Academy in 1960.
After graduating from high school, James moved to New York City, attending college in New York. He was employed by New York University Medical Center for many years as an Electrical Helper and upon his return to Sanford, he was employed by Seminole Community College, now Seminole State College, as a Supervisor of Electrical Maintenance for 30 years before retiring.
James loved to share his talent of cooking with family and friends, and especially loved making his own barbeque sauce and other treats that his children and their friends requested of his to cook. He also had a passion for shrimping and fishing with his children and a love for football.
Mr. Wright is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dr. Geraldine Davidson Wright, son, Mr. James Wright, Jr., Alexandria, Virginia; daughters Ms. Stephanie A. Wright, Lake Mary, Florida and Mrs. Joycelyn Burke, Geneva, Florida (William); grandsons Jabren Barreto, Mason Wright and Edison Wright; brother, Mr. William Wright, Sanford, Florida, sisters, Mrs. Edna Wright Williams, Denver Colorado and Dr. Rosalie Cook, Sanford, Florida. In addition to his siblings, James was very close of his nephew, Dr. Stephen C. Wright, considering him to be one of his brothers. He also leaves to morn his Brother-in-Law Clarke Peterson of Lake Mary Florida and a Sister-in-Law, Mrs. Dorothy Wright, Dudley, North Carolina, as well as a host of nephews and nieces who loved him dearly.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for February 9, 2024. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Vitas Community Connection, 2201 Lucien Way Suite 100, Maitland, FL 32751 Or Alzheimer’s Disease Research.
