James T. Morris Sr.
James T. Morris Sr., known by family and close friends as “Brother passed April 2, 2024, was born to Daniel and Maggie Morris on October 31st, 1939. One of eleven children, he was the youngest of twins, by 3 minutes.
At an early age, many described James as an “easy-going guy who didn’t bother anyone.” His nickname “Brother” was adopted from his twin sister, Janie Morris[1]Daye. James attended Crooms Academy in Sanford, FL from elementary to high school, where he graduated in 1957, with honors. At an early age, he also learned to cook and make wine. He later attended FAMU and was a part of the ROTC.
James traveled during his youth and accumulated many skills including carpentry and canning medicinal salves. He lived with family in Plant City, FL for a time before heading to Monticello, FL, then on to Atlanta, GA. He found his way to Los Angeles, CA, where he earned a teaching degree. Due to health concerns, James returned to Sanford, FL where he met his wife Lois Boykin and built a life together.
James is preceded in death by his wife Lois, parents Daniel and Maggie Morris, and siblings; Willie, Jean Kidd, Dan, Robert, and Mary McCrow.
His children survive him; James ‘JJ’ Morris, Jr. [Cathy Morris], Joshua Morris, and Sheryl Boykin, and grandchildren; James Morris III, Jaquan Morris, Janiya Morris, and Cecil Boykin. In addition, to four brothers; Sam Morris, Edward Morris, George Morris, and Bernard Morris, and twin sister Janie Morris-Daye. An extended family will also remember him of nephews, nieces, and friends.
The visitation for James T. Morris Sr. will be Friday, April 12, 2024, from 5 PM until 7 PM at Wilson-Eichelberger Mortuary. A graveside service will be Saturday, April 13, 2024, in Restlawn Cemetery 1818 West 25th Street, Sanford, Florida at 11 AM with Pastor Leonard LJ Wilson of St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church officiating. The interment will occur next to his wife the late Lois Boykin Morris.
