Ruth Geneva Hiers, 94, passed away September 1, 2010.

Ruth was born on August 2, 1916 to her parents Jasper E. and Mary E. Tyson in Tyler, Fla.. She was a dedicated wife and homemaker. She owned and operated a horticulture nursery for many years. Ruth was well known for her cooking skills. She enjoyed reading, gardening and her family. Ruth was a member of the Eastern Star in Macclenny, Fla. and was a member of the Central Baptist Church in Sanford. Ruth was also active with the “Seminole Strollers” where she was their oldest walker and had logged more than 8,000 miles with the organization.

The family will receive friends at the Central Baptist Church on Tuesday from 9:30 to 10 a.m., with a celebration of her life at 10 a.m. with Pastor Bobby Richardson officiating. She is survived by her loving family, daughters, Libby (Carey) Ferrell, Sanford, and Pat (Allen) Fagan, Laurel, Md.; son, Duane (Phyllis) Hiers, Eufala, Ala.; sister, Connie Stone, Tampa; six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and her extended family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Central Baptist Church 3101 S.R. 46, Sanford, Fla., 32771.
