Family, friends celebrate 90th birthday for Ella Wynn at Sanford Civic Center

Ella Mae Rembert Wynn’s 90th birthday celebration was held on her birthday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. Wynn turned 90-years-old.

Family and friends gathered at the Sanford Civic Center to join in the “Love You” celebration. Host for the occasion was her son, William Wynn; the hostess was her daughter, Lavonia Wynn. The welcome and invocation were given by her son, Sylvester Wynn, Sr. Her daughter, Shirley Wynn, read her mother’s favorite scripture, Proverbs, Chapter 31.

Singing a selection to his great grandmother was Obri Richardson, “I Won’t Complain.” Praise dance and singing by LaTasha Wynn and the praise dance team, “Encourage Yourself.” Another praise dance by Tyra Posley, Shakur Wynn and Michael Vallot III, “God Favored Me.” The poem, “Still I Rise,” was dedicated to the honoree.

Special guest artists for the celebration were the Allen Chapel Angels of Praise. Family and friends sang happy birthday to the honoree. Tributes to Mother Wynn were given by her friend, Juanita Redding; Rev. Otis Raines and Rev. Valarie Houston, Pastor of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, where Mother Wynn is an ardent and active member and has been for many years. Pastor Houston says she is grateful to be her pastor because she is a lovable, faithful and dedicated Christian lady.

Expressions of love came from the Golden Girls Club, namely, Ruby White, Natherine Bentley, and others. Mother Wynn’s life story was presented by her daughter, Diann Wynn, and she shared some fun-filled information about the honoree. After a delicious dinner served by relatives and friends, a poem was read by son, Michael, entitled “We Owe Mother Respect.”

A proclamation was read in honor of Mother Wynn from Prince of Peace Baptist Church, Omaha, Neb., where Dr. Smart is Pastor. Mother Wynn gave thanks for her family and friends.

At the close of the celebration, her daughter, Mary, gave words of thanks and appreciation to all who helped make the celebration a joyous occasion. Peace, love and long-life to the honoree, Mother Ella Wynn.
