Annual Santa Run collects toys for Boys Town

OVIEDO — The holiday drive is under way to collect new, unwrapped toys and gifts for the annual law enforcement "Santa Run."

The 2008 "Santa Run," by motorcycle officers from each of the eight law enforcement agencies in Seminole County, benefits infant to teen girls and boys served by Boys Town Central Florida, especially the displaced youngsters living in residential homes at the Boys Town Demetree Campus in Oviedo.

Boys Town provides abused, abandoned and neglected children with a safe, caring, loving environment. They gain confidence to get better and learn skills to become productive citizens.

To make the 2008 "Santa Run" a success, new unwrapped gifts of all kinds are needed for teenagers, pre-teens, children, toddlers and infants.

Collection boxes are located at the at city police stations in Sanford, Oviedo, Winter Springs, Altamonte Springs, Casselberry, Lake Mary and Longwood. Collection boxes also can be found at all Seminole County Sheriff's Office substations, the Sheriff's main headquarters at 100 Bush Boulevard in Sanford, the Altamonte Springs Police COPS Center in the Altamonte Mall and the Oviedo Police C.O.P.S. & Volunteer Center at Oviedo Marketplace (by Dillard's).

Donations must be delivered to a collection location or Optimist Club meeting by Dec. 12.

On Dec. 18, a large contingent of law enforcement motorcycles will escort a motorcycle-riding Santa Claus, and the presents for the children starting from the Winter Springs Police Department and ending at the Oviedo Campus of Boys Town Central Florida.
