The Youth Empowerment. Leadership & Development Academy is up and running at the Goldsboro Front Porch once again and is currently interviewing applicants for summer employment. The program is all made possible by the partnership of the Goldsboro Front Porch and the Department of Community Affairs Office of Urban Opportunity. The funding only allows the program to be open to 10 candidates.

The requirements of the program are: must be employable to work according to Florida State law, must currently possess a GPA at least 2.0 or higher, be computer literate, consent to a background check, must have a household income no greater than 80 percent of Seminole County's median income and complete, sign and turn in employment application and essay. Summer employment for the students will begin in June and will end the beginning of August. The students will work a maximum of twenty hours per week for seven weeks. The application deadline is Friday.

This training along with others will prepare students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed on the job and in life. Interested students should call or stop by the Goldsboro Front Porch for an application or schedule an appointment with Shalonda Young.

Young is currently working with surrounding businesses in the Sanford area to establish job partnerships.
