In 1939, the Sanford Lookouts, a Class D Florida State League team, won the state pennant with a four man pitching staff that included Joe Pinder.

Following the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Joe Pinder enlisted in the Army.

Joe Pinder was killed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic efforts to secure communications equipment on the beach during the invasion.
