SANFORD — The Seminole Community College baseball team wrapped up the Mid-Florida Conference Championship last week.

The Raiders’ reward, a date in the opening round of the State Tournament against defending National Champion Chipola College at 1 p.m. Friday at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven.

SCC ended the regular season with a 34-17 record overall and 16-8 in the conference and ranked No. 4 in the State and receiving votes in the National Poll.

But the Raiders will be tested right off the bat as the Panhandle Conference runners-up Indians are 39-12-1, ranked No. 5 in the State Poll and No. 17 in the nation.

Chipola finished second in its conference to Pensacola, which just happens to be 41-6 overall and ranked No. 1 in the state and national polls.

In other first round games, St. Petersburg takes on Broward at 10 a.m.; Miami-Dade faces Manatee at 4 p.m.; and Pensacola battles M-FC runners-up Lake City at 7 p.m.

The Raiders will play either St. Pete or Broward on Saturday, at 10 a.m. if they lose, and at 4 p.m. if they win.

To follow the tournament, which will last until either Monday or Tuesday, go to www.scc-fl.edu and click on the athletics page. Once there, go to the baseball page and click on the little blue ‘Season Standings’ to get to the scores.
