WINTER SPRINGS — The City of Sanford Leisure Services Department Babe Ruth Baseball League Babe Ruth (14-and-Under Junior) Division All-Stars put on a terrific performance during the District 8 Tournament at Central Winds Park in Winter Springs June 12-15.

The locals were shocked in their first game as host Winter Springs came out swinging the bats, exploding for an early 9-0 lead.

The Sanford stars didn’t quit however, and bounced back to dominate the rest of the game, battling back to within 9-6 before they ran out of innings.

The second game also ended up being a heartbreaker for Sanford as they toe-to-toe with a very good Longwood All-Star team for 10 innings before being eliminated from the tourney, 6-5.

Despite the loss, things look bright for the Sanford Juniors for next year as nine of the 13 players were 13-year-olds.

The Sanford Babe Ruth League All-Stars were led by Head Coach Mark Morrison from the Ruden McCloskey Law Firm Braves with Bill Sutton of the Braves serving as an assistant coach along with Scooter Leonard from the State Farm Insurance/Gail Williams Mariners.

Making up the roster were 13-year-olds Taylor Morrison, Will Sutton, Joseph Montero, Richard McHugh, Bryce Natale and Jeffery Johnson and 14-year-old Christopher Castillo from the Braves; 13-year-old David Ortiz and 14-year-olds Alan Drake Jr. and Dondre Stile from the Quality Metals Inc. Cardinals; 13-year-old Darwin Polanco from the Red Brick Pizza Red Sox; and 14-year-old Jared Leonard and 13-year-old Edgar Munoz from the Mariners.
