Winter Haven nine wins NHSI title; Bears 6th, Seminole 10th From Staff Reports

SANFORD — The Florida Collegiate Summer League’s National High School Invitational in Sanford ended with All Saints Academy on top, as they took home the title with a 6-3 win over Edgewater on Friday night on Rinker-Stenstrom Field at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.

Timber Creek took third place in the consolation game by way of a 13-0 win over East Ridge.

Corey Topa of All Saints Academy and Dejai Oliver of Pine Castle Christian shared NHSI Tournament MVP honors. Topa went 8-for-13 with seven runs scored, four runs batted in, two doubles, two stolen bases and two home runs while Oliver went 2-0 over 11 innings on the mound, where he pitched a complete game, struck out 15, allowed one earned run and yielded just four hits.

Seminole County entries Winter Springs and Seminole placed sixth and 10th, respectively, while Orangewood Christian went 1-2 in the event, choosing to play selected games because a team from Chicago dropped out at the last minute, leaving just 15 teams in the draw.

All Saints 6 - Edgewater 3

Logan Hunter and Corey Topa each finished 3-for-3 in the title game at Sanford Memorial Stadium to help lead Winter Haven All Saints to a 6-3 win over Orlando Edgewater.

Topa homered, drove in two runs, scored two runs and pitched a complete game with four strikeouts for All Saints (4-0), who took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning after the teams were knotted in a 3-3 tie.

Tyler Williams and Greg Rainey each recorded two hits for Edgewater (3-1) as Brian Johnson drove in two runs in the loss.

Timber Creek 13 - East Ridge 0

Timber Creek took third place at the NHSI by holding East Ridge to just three hits in a big 13-0 win at Sanford Memorial Stadium.

Cody Sharp hit a double, finished 3-for-4 with 4 RBI and two runs scored while Tyler Marincov hit a four-run homer in the win for TCHS (3-1). Alejandro Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.

Kristopfer Hodges, Jack Curtis and Ricky Saborido got hits for East Ridge (2-2).

Seminole Ridge 8 - Windward 1

TJ Farjad struck out five and got plenty help from his teammates as Seminole Ridge (1-3) ran away with an 8-1 win over Los Angeles-Windward (1-3) in the Seventh Place Game at Sanford Memorial Stadium.

Robbie Pettet was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored. Steven O’Connor doubled, drove in two, scored two and went 2-for-3 on the day. Pat Lecroy tripled and drove in two runs on his lone hit.

Windward was led by Max Rappaport (3-for-3) and AJ Frank (2-for-2) in the loss.

Lakeland Christian 8 - John I. Leonard 4

Jonathan Stump was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, a triple and 3 RBI while Tanner Fox (2 RBI) and Mac Miller (RBI) each went 2-for-4 in the 8-4 Lakeland Christian (1-3) victory.

Corey Stump pitched a complete game, striking out six, for the win.

Donnie Teachman was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and Kevin Baumiller went 2-for-3 for John I. Leonard (1-3).

King’s Academy 4 - Trinity Christian 0

Frankie Roperto and Ryan Krance combined for six strikeouts and allowed just three hits in the 4-0 King’s Academy (2-2) win at Zinn Beck Field.

Andrew Watson stole two bases and Daniel Neidrauer scored two runs for the winning team.

Jose Garcia struck out eight batters in five innings in the loss for Trinity (0-4).

Mosley 12 - Seminole 9

Dustin Saulmon doubled and drove in four runs for Mosley (3-1) while Jarod Lee finished 3-for-5 with 2 RBI in the Ninth Place Game at Seminole High School’s Alumni Field.

Nick Hartzog and Adam Abrams also drove in two runs in the win.

Roby Williams went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI and Daniel Hoover went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI for Seminole (1-2).

Pine Castle 4 - Winter Springs 2

Dejai Oliver struck out nine in a complete game effort and Clay Gibson went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for Pine Castle Christian (3-1) in the team’s 4-2 win over Winter Springs in the Fifth Place Game at Zinn Beck Field.

Oliver allowed just three hits and one earned run in the game.

Taylor Perez went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Winter Springs (2-2).
