Curated by Valada Parker Flewellyn and featuring artwork by Carl Raphael Purdy, A Pilot Lights the Way focuses on the career of the United States Navy’s first African American fighter pilot, Jesse Leroy Brown. Brown was killed when his plane crashed during a mission in Korea in December 1950. His squadron, VF-32, was a stationed at Naval Air Station Sanford after the Korean War.
The exhibit has toured the country as part of the Centennial of Naval Aviation. It was last displayed at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola.
A Pilot Lights the Way will remain at the museum through Dec. 28.
