The 6th Annual March for Meals will be held on March 21 along Sanford’s RiverWalk to raise awareness and funds in support of Seminole County Seniors.
The march is a 3K run/walk put on by Meals on Wheels and Seminole County Seniors.
The donated money will go to support senior services such as hot meals, home care and transportation. The donations are tax deductible as Meals on Wheels is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
Seminole County Seniors officials said “the needs of Seminole County Seniors continue to grow as that segment of the population is growing faster than many others, yet nearly all segments of Meals on Wheels funding sources have been slashed.”
This puts more pressure on contributions by individual donors, which must help replace funding sources for retaining programs within the agency.
Meals on Wheels said it has more than 200 seniors on this year’s waiting list.
Marchers can register at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Sanford Museum at 520 E. 1st St. the day of the march or register online at www.mealsetc.org. The march will begin at 8 a.m. Registration is free. There will be a free breakfast after the march available to each registered marcher.
Seminole County Senior officials said any amount of donation is welcome and pets are welcome to march as well.
