Lt. James McAuliffe said police are unsure what happened to Howard Lay, of Sanford, before police found him foaming at the mouth and unresponsive last Tuesday at Pet Rescue by Judy on Iroquois Avenue.
As of Tuesday, Inv. Ronny Neal said Lay was coherent and speaking with investigators, however they were not releasing any statements Lay made to police.
According to an incident report, an officer found the man in the parking lot with a bruise on his left cheek and cuts on his left elbow and right hand. Lay’s eyes were open and he had foam coming out of his mouth, the report stated.
The officer reported Lay was without his wallet, keys or any jewelry. A woman on scene told the officer Lay sometimes did security work in the area and he owned a nearby business.
Additionally, a doctor that treated Lay said his injuries were not consistent with a possible seizure, according to the report.
Police are asking that anyone with information on the incident call the Sanford Police Department at 407-688-5070.
