George Zimmerman is asking that the judge in his case block a subpoena issued to a doctor that would potential released medical records of the defendant.

In the motion filed Monday, Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said the records requested “are privileged medical records” that should remain private. O’Mara also wrote the request of the records was overbroad and would include information irrelevant to the case.

Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda signed the subpoena for Altamonte Family Practice – the location where Zimmerman was treated for his injuries the day following the incident with Trayvon Martin.

Additionally, O’Mara wrote that the state has “taken attack of releasing to the public any and all information concerning Mr. Zimmerman without regard for relevance or privacy matters…”

Last week the State Attorney’s Office accidentally released several pieces of evidence to the media including a picture of Trayvon Martin’s body and Zimmerman’s school records from Seminole State College, where he pursued a degree in criminal justice.

The documents revealed Zimmerman had never actually obtained the degree from the school.

Judge Kenneth Lester is expected to hear the motion on the objection to the subpoena Friday at 8:30 a.m.
