Sanford police said they were able to catch and arrest a bank robber Thursday afternoon after an ice cream truck driver refused to give him a ride out of town.

Police said William James Foley, 46, walked into the Bank First on W. S.R. 46 around 2:55 p.m. and passed a note to the teller suggesting he was armed and demanding money. He was able to make it out of the bank with $300, police said, and ran to the Stratford Pointe Apartments across the street.

But when he asked an ice cream driver for a ride out of the area, police said, she refused. Foley then ran to the back of the apartment complex where police apprehended him. Police said they found all the cash taken from the bank on him.

Foley was charged with robbery and is currently in the Seminole County jail with a $4,000 bond.
