The show ‘Spike Heels,’ which is loosely based on ‘Pygmalion’ and ‘My Fair Lady,’ will run at the University of Central Florida with show times throughout July.
Lighthouse's mission statement reads: “The Lighthouse for the Blind is dedicated to providing programs and services to assist individuals who are blind or visually impaired in obtaining and maintaining independence at home, school, work and the community.”
In an effort to raise funds for this admirable cause, featured activities will include “Eye Candy,” a body painting exhibition orchestrated by the Central Florida Face and Body Painting Guild and “Feel the Music,” a body painting event with live models. Face and body painting will be available.

Big band music
The 18 piece Sanford Jazz Ensemble will grace The Wayne Densch Performing Art Center on Sunday, July 15 at 3 p.m.
The Sanford Jazz Ensemble is an entirely volunteer force of musicians whose mission is to preserve classic big band tunes of a bygone era.
“The guys of The Sanford Jazz Ensemble are playing to continue the legacy,” said Linda Cole.
This week's show has the honored distinction of being arranged by Dave Weaver, emceed by Jack Simpson and it will feature vocals by Linda Cole. Linda will step out of her typical up-tempo songs to revisit the torch song milieu that she used to favor, and perform “Charade” to Dave Weaver's new arrangement.

‘Spike Heels’
UCF's latest theatrical performance “Spike Heels,” is based loosely on Shaw's “Pygmalion” and “My Fair Lady.” “Spike Heels” is a modernized version of these plays written by Theresa Rebeck and directed by Kate Ingram.
Performances will be held on July 12, 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21 at 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. matinees will be on the July 15 and 22. Standard tickets are $17, senior citizens' tickets are $15, and students are $10, group discounts are available.

Non-Traditional Native
Third-generation Floridian, Karen Carasick is deeply influenced by the native landscape which she portrays in her paintings. Carasick has begun to embrace non-traditional methods of painting to convey classically stunning images.
A reception for her latest show will be held this Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Steinway Gallery in Altamonte Springs where her show will hang until the month's end. The artist will be there to meet and greet and refreshments are to be provided.
This event is free of cost and open to the public.
Art and Music in the Park
The city of Casselberry will hold their monthly event “Art and Music in the Park” at the Lake Concord Park on Friday, July 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. This month's theme is “Island Inspired.” An art show of the same name will be open at the City Hall from 6 to 8 p.m.
Back at the park 12 trucks from The Food Truck Bazaar will be purvey provisions. All around the park a smattering of local artists will display their paintings, jewelery and crafts. With live Caribbean music, great art and tasty food, this event should make a fantastic night.
This event is free and open to the public, so bring a picnic blanket and the whole family.
