Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said he has raised more than $36,000 since Zimmerman’s release from the Seminole County jail on Friday. These funds, O’Mara said, will offset money that had to be put towards Zimmerman’s bond.
O’Mara is also seeking continued support for the fund, stating more money will be required to fund Zimmerman’s legal defense. Zimmerman is now staying in a “safe house” in Seminole County provided by his security team, O’Mara said.
“Mr. Zimmerman’s involvement will prove critical for building his case, and his current bond status will allow him to be an active participant in his defense,” he said. “The defense team maintains that Mr. Zimmerman has a strong self-defense claim, and that is what we will be focusing on in the months ahead.”
The State Attorney’s office is expected to release additional evidence in the case sometime this week.
