Children at the Police Athletic League Camp pet the 12-weeks-old bloodhound Tuesday during the puppy’s visit.
Will she be called “Amber,” “Ellie” or “Rosie?” The public can now visit the SCSO Facebook page at www.facebook.com/seminolesheriff and vote by “liking” their favorite of the three names.
The name with the most “likes” at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 6 will officially become the winning name of SCSO’s newest four-legged deputy.
The three names for the puppy were selected from 78 entries submitted by children at SCSO’s Police Athletic League (PAL) camp. The finalists are:
• Amber – chosen because of her color and she will be used during Amber Alerts;
• Ellie – chosen because it sounds like the letters "LE" which is short for law enforcement; and
• Rosie – chosen because she'll have the nickname "Nosey Rosie.”
The winning name will be announced on Friday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m. at a ceremony at PAL camp.
The female puppy is 3-months-old and was donated to SCSO by The Jimmy Ryce Center. Once she completes her 18-24 month training program, she will replace 5-year-old bloodhound Billee, who will retire and live at home with his handler.
Like Billee, the new bloodhound will be used to track scent trails of missing children, seniors with Alzheimer’s, and criminal suspects.
