Bookertown Community Homecoming and Reunion June 29, 30 and July 1.

It’s a reunion for everyone from the Bookertown community. If you are a direct descendent from a parent, grandparent, great grandparent, etc., who resides in Bookertown, past or present, the event is free to you. Come and represent your family.

We only ask that you provide the name of your predecessor or the lineage you are from. All you need to do is come. You may meet relatives that you never knew were your kin. If you have no family ties to a Bookertown resident, past or present, you may participate in the activities but will be charged for meals.

The meals are $10 per person, per day for non-family persons (all you can eat). If you plan to participate in the activities for the full three days, the meal will cost $25. Children can eat at reduced rates.

We are looking forward to a grand weekend. For more information contact Gloria Cummings at 407-323-1872, Darien Oliver at 408-221-8107 or Carlton Edge at 407-330-7483.

Come and enjoy a weekend of fun and activities. Fish Fry kick off at 4 p.m. Friday. Parade, Saturday morning 10 a.m., Picnic in the park at noon (the old Bookertown School bldg.) July 1, Church Service at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church. Dinner will be served after church service.

• Glen “Big Baby” Davis to visit Sanford Summer Camp. On Thursday, June 28 Mr. Davis will visit Sunshine Grove, a prevention program, operated by the Grove Counseling Center.

Sunshine Grove focuses on positive living, healthy living, decision making, goal setting, avoiding peer pressure and learning from mistakes. Located in the Goldsboro neighborhood of Sanford, the camp is offered free of charge to families.

Glen “Big Baby” Davis has a reputation for bringing a positive attitude, a healthy sense of humor, and of course, impressive athleticism to the Orlando Magic. This summer he brings the magic to a non-profit summer camp in Sanford called the Sunshine Grove. If you have a child between the ages of 1st and 6th grades, there are still slots available in the July session of Sunshine Grove. Call 407-327-1765 or e-mail outreach@thegrove.org for more information.

The participants of the year are receiving government assistance including food stamps and Medicaid. However, there are no criteria to qualify. We do our best to make this camp accessible to families, said Chelsea Tygan, Associate Director of Outreach and Prevention at the Grove Counseling Center.

“We start with an evidence based curriculum, one proved to increase protective factor as our kids approach an age where substance abuse and other dangerous behaviors become more of a temptation. We add community guests, passionate instructors, good food, sports, the arts and a whole lot of fun.”
