June 21-thru-June 25 Sanford will be hosting a pair of Babe Ruth Baseball-Cal Ripken Division District 13 All-Star tournaments here at Chase Park _ the Cal Ripken 10 & under division and the Cal Ripken 12 & under division.
Twelve teams representing Flagler Beach, Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach, South Daytona, Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach and of course the host team from Sanford, will be sending teams in both age groups.
Both tournaments will be using a double elimination format with the winners advancing to the State Tournament.
In 2009 a team from Tampa that included Dwight Gooden’s son won the tournament here in Sanford and went on to win the World Championship for its age group, so there is a definite possibility of seeing something special during these tournaments.
All games will be played at the Herbert H. “Whitey” Eckstein Youth Sports Complex at Chase Park on Celery Avenue, just East of Mellonville Avenue.
There are no admission fees to these games so come on out and enjoy.
Then June 30-thru-July 3 Sanford will be hosting the Babe Ruth division District 13 All-Star 15 & under tournament on the Rinker-Stenstrom Field turf at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.
Three teams from Flagler Beach, South Daytona and (host team) Sanford will make-up the field for the double elimination tournament that will send its winner to the State Tournament.
Again there is no admission to the tournament and all games will be played at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium located on Mellonville Avenue just North of Celery Avenue (13th Street).
