Artisans on 5th

The Artisans on 5th Gallery in downtown Mt. Dora will host an opening reception for their featured artists' monthly show.

The artists this month are Andree Schroeder and Janet Crane, both renown across the country for their innovative and unique work. Crane is a jeweler who thinks of each piece as a wearable work of art. She tries to respect the media and allow light to pass through the stones. She currently has more than 20 pieces on display at the Artisans on 5th Gallery.

Schroeder is a potter, painter and glass artist. This show will showcase her fused glass pieces, but will also include several paintings and her most recent expression: lighting. Schroeder has created diffused lighting using internally lit clear glass blocks that she has augmented with colored glass.

The show will be held Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. Both artists will be there to meet and greet and refreshments will be served. For more information go to www.artisansonfifth.com

Call to artists

The Sanford Art Walk has issued a call to artists for their juried and people's choice art contest. The show will take place on Friday, Jan. 27. The Best in Show winner will be awarded a ribbon and $150 while the People's Choice winner will take home a ribbon and $50.

This month's theme is black and white. Works may be sculptural, paintings, photographs or other mediums. A $25 entry fee per artist is due and in exchange each artist may present up to three works per show.

Submissions will be accepted no later than Jan. 18 at 4 p.m. E-mail a photograph of your submission for consideration to info@welcomecenter.com
