The Museum of Seminole County History will host a lecture on “Piracy in Florida” by Mark Long of the History Department of the University of Central Florida next week in conjunction with its summer “Pirates!” exhibit.

The program will run from 7-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, and will be held in the museum’s Agriculture Exhibits Building.

Long, an expert on Florida piracy, will discuss the Atlantic slave trade, Caribbean pirates and the Spanish Plate Fleet of 1715, as well as some infamous pirates in Florida waters.

Attendees can explore the traveling exhibit, “Pirates! The Last Scourge of the Gulf” and a question-and-answer period will follow. The lecture is free.

The Museum of Seminole County History is at 300 Bush Blvd. in Sanford, across from Flea World on U.S. 17-92.
