A 41-year-old Sanford man was charged Wednesday with homicide a day after Seminole County Sheriff’s Office investigators said he was involved in a Midway shooting that left one man dead and another injured.

The shooting occurred around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday on Greenway Avenue in the community east of Sanford.

Officials said three men were approaching a residence on the street in a white Toyota Camry when several other men at the residence opened fired on the vehicle. From the spray of bullets, driver Mickeal Hunter was shot in the arm, and passenger T’Andre Brown, who was sitting in the back seat, was shot in the back.

Hunter immediately headed to Central Florida Regional Hospital, where deputies later met him. Brown, 21, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Although officials said Hunter could not identify any of the shooters, the third passenger in the car said he saw someone aim and fire an assault rifle at their car.

When deputies investigated the crime scene, they said they found shell casings from an assault rifle and a handgun.

Leonard Vann Lucas of Daffodil Terrace was charged with one count of homicide, two counts of attempted murder, firing a weapon into a residence and property damage after he voluntarily spoke with investigators about the crime. He is being held in the Seminole County Jail without bail.

Lucas was arrested when he was called and voluntarily met with investigators at the sheriff’s department.
