He was born on November 13, 1940 in Leary, Ga. to Arrilla and Staley Jones, Sr. Both of his parents preceded him in death. He attended Seminole County Public Schools and graduated from Crooms High School, Sanford. He was a Baptist; he worked as a seasoned migrant worker and as a cabinet maker. Staley, Jr. traveled back and forth working in New York and Florida. He was a longtime resident of Sanford. He served in the United States Army and he served during the Vietnam Era as a Heat and Vent Specialist 51J30. He received an honorable discharge and received numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Mental and the Vietnam Service Medal.
He is survived by his five sisters, Jennifer Perkins, Sanford, FL, Isabelle (Raymond) Hollie, Debary, FL, Sandra (Eric) Middleton, Victorville, CA, Shirley Thompson, Rochester, NY, and Delores Andrews, Ontario, CA; two brothers, Freddie (Judy) Jones and Earl (Ginger) Jones, both of Sanford, FL; aunt, Mattie Mae Williams, Sanford, FL; uncle, Willie Hawkins, Sanford, FL; and goddaughter, Janice Hopkins, Sanford, Florida.
Visitation on Friday, July 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Home Chapel, 900 Locust Avenue, Sanford. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 21, at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 618 East 10th Street, Sanford, with Pastor Theory Stringer, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Sanford, with military honors.
