She was born August 15, 1909 in Leary, Ga. She moved to Sanford in 1942. She was a member of New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Sanford, where she served faithfully on the Mother Board, Usher Board, and Choir, until her health failed her. She worked as a volunteer for the Foster Grandparent Program for over 30 years, taking care of children in the Sanford community. She was honored for her 100th birthday with a commendation from President Barack Obama.
She is survived by her sister, Eva Barnes; and her devoted caretaker and cousin, Isabelle Hollie (Raymond).
A Homegoing Celebration will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Sanford, with Reverend Jack Jackson, Jr., officiating. Visitation on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sunrise Funeral Home Chapel, Sanford.
