The zoo has commissioned nine reproductions of Cannizzaro's "Prehistoric Florida" paintings. They will be placed as a permanent exhibit along the Florida Trek at the zoo. Cannizzaro will also be present at the zoo throughout the year exhibiting his art and participating in zoo events.
Cannizzaro is a nationally recognized artist and author who has awakened a new appreciation for earth's endangered life through his expressive art.
In 1994 he was juried into the prestigious "Oil Pastel Association.” His portraits include civic leaders, members of Congress, and college presidents.
His acrylic paintings have hung in many galleries and have caught the attention of national publishers. Most recently Cannizzaro was commissioned by Ocean Publishing for a series of art exhibits in conjunction with a new book release, such as Jean-Michael Cousteau's "Explore the Southeast National Marine Sanctuaries.”
In Cannizzaro's marine life paintings his combination of vibrant colors and whimsical style has gained fans across the country. Cannizzaro has also written several children's books. "Ludi the Loggerhead Turtle,” is one of his books that combine his marine art and his commitment to promoting awareness among children. His latest book is dedicated to his next exhibit "The Endangered Life Series."
His inspiration for his paintings comes from nature, anywhere from the coastal beaches to exotic forests. Rick dedicates his art to enhance the awareness of the beauty of nature and its delicate balance for survival.
