George Zimmerman takes the stand April 20 during a bond hearing in the Seminole County Courthouse.
Zimmerman, who was released on a $1 million bond July 5 by Judge Kenneth Lester, is supposed to remain within county limits as part of the bond requirements.
Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said his client has followed those rules since his bond was set, however they have been detrimental to developing Zimmerman’s case.
“The restriction of Mr. Zimmerman not to leave Seminole County has had an ongoing, deleterious effect on his ability to assist in the preparation of his own defense,” wrote O’Mara in the motion.
“Mr. Zimmerman must be able to travel to meet with his lawyers, and to attend to various other necessary matters to prepare this matter to move forward.”
O’Mara also argued when Zimmerman was granted bond the first time on April 20 he was allowed outside of the county and never broke any rules set forth in his bond.
This motion comes right after one O’Mara filed last week to try to keep Zimmerman’s medical records from being subpoenaed. The prosecution sought to obtain medical records from Altamonte Family Practice where Zimmerman was treated for a broken nose the day after he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
In a motion filed by the state on Thursday, Assistant State Attorney Bernie de la Rionda argued the state issued the subpoena in order to confirm there were no additional existing records at the doctor’s office, like x-rays or photographs.
