Holy Cross Lutheran Academy & Preschool is celebrating its 10th anniversary by carrying out 10 “Love in Action” community-service projects in Sanford and Lake Mary.

The school began as a daycare and preschool in September 1999 as an outreach of Holy Cross Lutheran Ministries in Lake Mary. It has developed into two campuses – in Sanford and Lake Mary – serving about 120 students through 8th grade and about 80 children in childcare.

Students began their service projects in September with a walk-a-thon fundraiser at Cranes Roost to benefit The Sharing Center.

Other events during the next few months include projects such as preparing food baskets, providing gift boxes and visiting seniors at assisted-living facilities and nursing homes, collecting blankets for the homeless, and raising money in the American Heart Association’s “Jump for Your Heart” fundraiser.

HCLA is accredited through the Association of Independent Schools of Florida and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Betty Hoyer, director of education, said the school’s service projects “provide students an opportunity to put into action what they have learned about Christian community in a very positive and tangible way.”
