Editor,

The town-hall meeting July 30 at Sanford’s City Hall about Trayvon Martin’s memorial accomplished nothing concerning the underlying causes of what continues to make this city bleed.

Distrust, partiality, disrespect and deceptive ways continue to fester amid some of our civic leaders, causing more public discord.

The curbside memorial, which city officials moved to the Sanford Museum, was maintained by caring citizens and its location was outside the confines of the gated community, The Retreat at Twin Lakes, where the killing took place.

Outstanding people live throughout the Sanford community and every person has a right to exercise freedom of speech and to be treated the same. To suppress this right of free speech is a violation of civil law.

Moreover, we are instructed to be of one mind, having compassion and love for one another, be pious and be courteous to each other. Not doing this is a violation of a greater law.

Return the Trayvon Martin memorial to its original location to also show the world we are a city of compassion.
