At approximately 5:35 p.m. Sunday evening police said they responded to the area where they found Devon Jackson lying in front of 1401 W. 14th St. with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Jackson was able to tell police the shooter was driving a red vehicle before he was airlifted to the Orlando Regional Medical Center.
Police said Jackson has now stabilized and is speaking with investigators to help identify any suspects.
In an unrelated incident, police were able to catch another man with active warrants near the scene of the crime after they said his vehicle matched the description given by Jackson.
Police said the vehicle was fleeing the area shortly after the shooting and when they attempted to stop it, the vehicle crashed into another car at Academy Avenue and Airport Boulevard. The driver, identified as Eric Menefee, 23, of Sanford, fled the scene but police were able to catch him.
Menefee was charged with leaving the scene of a crash, failure to remain at a crash, driving with a revoked license and aggravated fleeing or eluding police. His sister, Erica Traneisha Menefee, 22, was also arrested at the scene of the crash for obstructing justice.
Police said Erica Menefee walked past crime scene tape at the crash scene and would not leave when police asked her to.
