It’s that time of year again… Oktoberfest is back!

Alive After 5’s biggest event stands to be better than ever with more than 65 vendors this month and a variety of special features including German music, food and even a German wedding.

Taking the main stage in Magnolia Square next Thursday will be The Alpines featuring Jimmy and Eckhard delivering your favorite tunes regularly heard at downtown Sanford’s German restaurant The Willow Tree Café. Accompanying the music will be the Alpenrose Dancers.

And what would Oktoberfest be without German food? The main food sample will be bratwurst and sauerkraut cooked up by Alive After 5’s volunteers.

Around 7 p.m. you can catch a German wedding in Magnolia Square where Sanford residents Dara and Jonathan will exchange vows. The couple won the wedding as part of a contest put on by Willow Tree – the restaurant where they shared their first date.

Additional music will be by the U.S. Air Force Academy Band, Wild Blue Country. They will perform at the corner of Palmetto Avenue and 1st Street. Music will also be featured at 1st Street and Oak Avenue, provided by Café Rouge.

Feel like singing your own tunes? Head over to the Historic Sanford Welcome Center courtyard where Rockin Rhonda’s will have a karaoke sing-along. The Brite Star Twirlers will also return with performances throughout the night.

And because this is Alive After 5’s biggest event of the year they’ve decided to go an extra hour this month. The downtown street party will be open until 9 p.m. this Thursday.

Of course, the monthly party will also feature its usual array of handmade crafts and art for sale along Palmetto Avenue as well as food samples from all the vendors.

Wristbands for the event cost $7. Alive After 5 is held the second Thursday of each month and is put on by the Historic Sanford Welcome Center.
