Committee Members Wanted
The City of Sanford is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Police Pension Board, the Sanford Airport Authority and the Sanford Museum Board. Seminole County residency is required for members on the Sanford Airport Authority; City of Sanford residency is required for membership on the other three boards. Gov. Appoints SCSO Sheriff
Gov. Rick Scott has announced the appointment of Donald F. Eslinger to the Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information Systems Council. Eslinger, 54, of Lake Mary, is the Seminole County sheriff. He succeeds Laurence O. Campbell and is appointed for a three-year term, ending Oct. 1, 2014.
Thunder Run Needs Support
Sanford Thunder Run, now in its third year, is raising awareness and money for organizations benefiting children in crisis and could use the help of the community. The nonprofit event, sponsored by Keep Seminole Beautiful, will be held from 10 a.m.-2 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, in historic downtown Sanford.
Among the charitable organizations that will benefit from the day’s events are the Bahia Shriners, The Raven Foundation, Bikers Against Child Abuse and the Brachial Plexus Cause. For more information on how to volunteer or contribute to this event, visit SanfordThunder.com.

City Commission Redistricting
Upon review of the Federal 2010 Census data, the Sanford City Commission noted that unequal population growth in the the city has caused the districts to become unequally populated. The City Commission appointed a Redistricting Advisory Committee for 2011 and charged the committee to review and recommend changes in the City Commission districts. The committee invites the public to submit comments and opinions regarding redistricting in the City of Sanford, and to submit alternative redistricting plans. Information regarding redistricting is available at sanfordfl.gov.
All committee meetings are open to the public. The committee will hold its next public hearing meeting at 6 p.m. on Sept. 15, specifically to receive public input regarding redistricting. The public hearing meeting will be held in the City Commission Chambers, 1st Floor, City Hall, 300 North Park Ave., Sanford.
