The tournament featured over 65 of the southeast’s best players, with competitors from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Michigan.
This tournament was ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and the players who finished well surely earned their points. The weather was beautiful both days, with the sun out in full force.
The Girls 15-to-18 Division was won in come-from-behind fashion by Lauren Riehle of Wesley Chapel with an impressive 2-over par performance (75+71).
Her second round 71 was enough to overtake the round one leader and claim first. Riehle led the group in multiple categories including most pars (26), birdies (5), par 3 (2.88) and par 4 average (4.15).
Second went to Minta Yin of Lake Mary with a 2-day total of 149 (73+76). Yin was second in most pars (25), par 5 average (4.88) and par 4 average (4.20) for the tournament.
Claiming third was Grace Rokela of Naples with a 2-day total of 151 (77+74). Rokela played a very consistent final round to move up to third place. Rokela tied for the most birdies (5) and also led the field in par 5 average (4.38).
The Boys 11-14 Division was won by Graydon Kent of Ponte Vedra Beach with a 2-day 1-under par performance (71+72). This is the 2nd straight event Kent has won on the HJGT. After being the round one leader Kent held on the claim first. He had a very impressive 91.7% of holes at par or better and also led the field in par 4 average (3.90).
There was a 2-way tie for second between Mattias Ruehle of Orlando (74+76) and Griffin Pickett from Ormond Beach (73+77), each posting an overall 150. Ruehle played the par 5’s under par for the tournament (4.75) and tied for most birdies (6). Pickett also tied for most birdies (6) and played the par 5’s to a perfect average overall (5.00).
Kyle Flexsenhar of Lake Mary took third behind a 2-day total of 151 (74+77). Flexsenhar was second in most birdies (5) and third in par 3 performance for the tournament (3.12).
The Boys 15-18 Division came down to a playoff and was won by Shanren Brienen of Orlando after posting a 2-day total of 143 (70+73).
Brienen, who plays high school golf at The Master’s Academy in Oviedo, was tied for the first round lead and was able to hang on for the victory after one playoff hole. Brienen tied for the division lead in birdies (9) and also led in par 4 performance (3.95).
Taking home second was Will Duma of Atlanta, GA after a playoff while also posting a 2-day total of 143 (73+70). Duma went low in the final round to force the playoff after being 3 shots back coming into the day. Duma had the most pars or better in the group (86.1%) and tied for the best par 3 average (2.88).
Claiming third was Kiernan Murphy of St. Augustine with a 2-day 145 (76+69). Murphy’s second round 69 was the lowest of the event and it featured 4 birdies and only one bogey. Murphy tied for the best par 4 average (3.95) and was second in most pars or better (83.3%).
Sanford’s Chase Ibbotson claimed a pair of tournament awards in the Boys 15-to-18 Division, tying for the EFX Birdie Challenge with Brienen and finishing first in Coolheads Par 5 Performance.
Navika Kuchakulla of Orlando used a strong performance to claim the Girls 11-14 Division first place trophy behind a 2-day total of 150 (73+77).
After a commanding round one lead, Kuchakulla won by 9 strokes. She played the par 3’s to a perfect 3.00 average and had the most pars in the division (27).
Ashley Mangan of Clermont took second with a total of 159 (81+78). Mangan is the only player who improved her score between rounds and used that to take second, as well as go home with some Golf Pride Grips for Most Improved Player. Mangan led in par 5 average (4.88) and most birdies (4).
In a 2-way tie for third, Madyson Moy of Orlando (88+88) and Brittney Mangan of Clermont (88+88) each posted overall 176’s. Moy was second in most pars (18) and par 3 average (3.12). Mangan was third in par 4 average (4.90), using two consistent rounds to claim third.
