Early Voting for the Aug. 14 Primary Election will be available from through Aug. 11 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Coffee with the City Manager
Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte has scheduled his first “Coffee with the City Manager” for Thursday, Aug. 16 from 8 to 9 a.m. at the Sanford Welcome Center at 230 E. 1st St.
This is an opportunity for residents to come out and informally share with the city manager any suggestions, concerns or comments they would like to discuss with him.
Street closures
Two special event permits are up for approval by commissioners this month and city hall wants your input if you are a business or resident downtown.
• A Special Event Application for the “4th Annual Pirates of St. Juans Festival” will be presented to the city commission for their review at the next city commission meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13. The event is scheduled on September 22, 2012 from 5 p.m to midnight.
The Downtown Sanford Entertainment Merchants are sponsoring this event. This is a family friendly event with live music, food, drinks, games, vendors, visual arts, performance art, and costume contests. Costume contests for children, adults and pets are also scheduled.
The applicant is requesting closure of Sanford Avenue, from 2nd Street to 5th Street from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. The applicant is also requesting a noise permit and liquor permit.

• A Special Event Application for the “Sanford Bikefest 2012 Thunder in the Streets” will be presented to the city commission for their review at the city commission meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27. The event is scheduled on October 12-14, 2012.
The annual BikeFest, sponsored by the Sanford Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 through 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14. The event will feature an airshow with acrobatics, live music, food vendors, motorcycle stunt shows, bike contest, poker run and more.

From 7 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 through 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14: 1st Street, from Pine Avenue to Lakeview Avenue
From 6 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 12 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14:
Seminole Boulevard from Sanford Avenue to Mellonville Avenue; Mellonville Avenue, from 1st Street to Seminole Boulevard; San Juan Avenue, from 1st Street to Seminole Boulevard. These streets will remain accessible for motorcycle parking and local traffic.

Feline Fiesta
It's that time of year again where the shelter is overflowing with wonderful cats and kittens. The Seminole County Animal Services will throw a Feline Fiesta this weekend to help these animals be adopted.
At this event we will be featuring our adoptable cats and kittens. We have so many awesome felines available we are going to change the rules a bit.
They will be open regular hours 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 plus we will also be open on Sunday, Aug. 12 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Animal Services is located at 232 Bush Blvd. Sanford (across the street from Flea World)
Special goody bags for your new feline friend will be given away with each adoption plus stop by and check out the adoption specials during this event. There will also be a great prize drawing on Saturday.
Currently Seminole County Animal Services is competing in the ASPCA/Rachael Ray 100K Challenge through Oct. 31. Our goal is to Adopt out “A Dozen a Day.” That would be a dozen pets into homes each day for the next few months. Stop by and check out all of our great cats during this event and have your new cat become one of the “Dozen a Day”
Added Bonus the Rescue or Refer Community Challenge is in full swing.
