Brenda Carey, District 5 commissioner, was elected as chairwoman. She replaces Carlton Henley, District 4 commissioner, who served as chairman for the last three years. Michael McLean, District 2 commissioner, was elected as vice chairman.
McLean has also been appointed to Gov. Charlie Crist’s Drug Task Force, the county announced Friday. The former Lake Mary city commissioner was among five people appointed to the new Task Force for the Remediation of Illicit Drug Labs.
The Task Force was created for the purpose of recommending strategies and actions for reducing or eliminating health risks from buildings in this state where methamphetamine or other contra-band has been manufactured in violation of law.
Other task force members include: the Chief of Police for the Marianna Police Department, a West Palm Beach City Commissioner, a West Palm Beach realtor and the Sheriff of Pasco County.
Carey, as the county’s new chairwoman, will preside over meetings, sign all legal documents and appoint commissioners to various committees.
The chair is the official representative of the Board and retains a vote on all items and issues.
McLean, as the county’s vice chair is responsible for performing those duties in Carey’s absence.
