SOFTBALL CLINIC

The ASA/USA Softball National Identification Program, powered by Softball Factory, will take place in Clermont on Wednesday, July 11, at the National Training Center (NTC).

All athletes ages 13-18 are encouraged to attend. Players are asked to report to the field at noon for registration, and the event is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. The registration fee is $99. During this event with Softball Factory, the Official Scouting Partner of ASA/USA Softball, players will take part in a workout where they will perform for Softball Factory coaches who will evaluate them on speed, pitching, hitting and defense.

Select players from the event will qualify for Softball Factory player development programs such as the Softball Factory World Series, the Maryland Select Training, and the Ronald McDonald Softball Tournament. These events have been created to help players in their development as they move forward towards college. In addition, Softball Factory will provide players with tools to help families navigate the college recruiting process.

After the event, all player evaluations will be submitted to ASA/USA Softball for consideration in their Junior National Team selection pool. This is a great opportunity for players to get on the selection committee’s radar as they plan ahead for future USA Softball Junior National Teams.

SPRING SOFTBALL

Here is the schedule for this week in the City of Sanford Recreation Services Department 2012 Adult Slowpitch Softball Spring Postseason Tournaments at Pinehurst Park.

Due the bad weather in late May and most of June several games in the Wednesday night league was lost and because of vacations and Pinehurst being shut down for most of July and August for regularly scheduled maintenance most of those lost games will not be made up and the tournament will be played between the top four teams in the league. Teams that lost games will get a break on the entry fee in the Fall Season that will begin in September.

The Wednesday Night Fun League Postseason Tournament will be played on Wednesday, July 11, and will have No. 4 seeded Wet Spot playing the No. 1 seeded CPH Engineers at 6:30 p.m.; No. 2 seeded The West End Trading Company taking on No. 3 seeded Scientific Glass at 7:30 p.m.; and the winners returning at 8:30 p.m. for the Championship Game.

Everyone is invited free of charge to come out and cheer on the teams at Pinehurst Park, located on West 24th Street, five blocks west after turning off of 17-92 at the Hungry Howie’s Pizza.

BASKETBALL CAMP

The 21st Annual Metro North Basketball Camp directed by former UCF All-American and current Flagler College head coach Bo Clark will run one more week this month _ July 16-through-20 from 9 a.m.-to-12 p.m. (noon) each day.

Camp will be held at Annunciation Catholic Academy in Altamonte Springs.

Cost is $80.

JUNIOR GOLF

Sanford junior golfers ages 11-to-18 are invited to compete in a pair of upcoming AJGT tournaments.

The AJGT Crown Buick Invitational will be held in New Orleans the week of July 16–17.

The 2-day, 36-hole tournament is ranked by the National Junior Golf Scoreboard and hosted by the Arrowhead Junior Golf Tour. Includes two days of green fees, tee gifts and Trophies in four age divisions.

Recommended accommodations are available at the Sleep Inn. Please call 504-309-5700 for reservations.

The tournament extended registration deadline is Friday, July 13 at Noon.

The AJGT Purple and Gold Junior Classic will be held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on the week of July 23–24.

There will be a special 50-Lap feature for the Mini-Stocks and a 35-Lap feature for the Strictly Stocks at Orlando SpeedWorld this Friday night.

Also on the schedule will be the Super Late Models, Super Stocks, Legends and Bandoleros.

Pit Gates open at 4 p.m. and Grandstands at 6 p.m.

Racing begins at 8 p.m.

General Admission will be $15 for Adults; $13 for Seniors and Military; and FREE for Kids 11 & under.

NEW SMYRNA

New Smyrna Speedway will be hosting the next round of the Bright House Challenge Series that sees the Super Late Models run a 100-Lap feature.

Also on the schedule will be the Sportsman, Super Stocks, Mini-Stocks and Strictly Stocks.

Pit Gates open at 3 p.m. and the grandstands at 6 p.m.

Racing will begin at 7:30 p.m.

General Admission will be $20 for Adults; $18 for Seniors and Military; and FREE for Kids 11 & under.

TENNIS CLINICS

Free junior tennis clinics and tournaments will again be offered by Lake County Junior Golf at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills by Professionals Cesar Villarroel and Gene Jacobson.

Health and Fitness education is also included in the program.

Clinics are held each Saturday with tournaments beginning on Saturday, July 14.

The program is for boys and girls ages 10 to 18 who are Lake County residents. Non- Lake County residents may pay a fee to reserve a space. Space is limited.

VOLLEYBALL CAMPS

UCF Head Volleyball Coach Todd Dagenais will be holding a Position Specific Clinic on July 14 and an Elite College Prep Camp from July 15-18.

Rounding out the on-campus portion of the summer camp program will be the 2012 Elite College Prep Camp from July 15-18. Enrollment is limited to only 56 campers and will be staffed by college coaches and players, as well as international professional players and coaches.

Campers can select the option of staying overnight or commuting daily to the camp held entirely in the UCF Venue.

14-18 BASEBALL TRYOUTS

The Under Armour Baseball Factory National Tryout will take place on Tuesday, July 17, on Jack Pantelias Field at Seminole State College of Florida.

All high school athletes ages 14-to-18 are encouraged to attend. Players are asked to report to the field at noon for registration, and the tryout is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Baseball Factory’s staff of professional scouts, former professional players, and former college coaches will evaluate players on the field and lead a college recruiting question and answer session. Those in attendance will learn about the college recruiting process and the steps players should take in order to increase their chances of playing college baseball and receiving scholarships. Top players from the tryout may be selected to compete with Baseball Factory and Under Armour at the Cape Cod Select Training and Competition, the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City, and the Under Armour Fall Classic.

12-14 BASEBALL TRYOUTS

All baseball players ages 12-to-14 are encouraged to attend. Players are asked to report to the field at noon for registration, and the tryout is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

This event will focus on providing players with a fun workout during which instruction will be provided and players will learn more about their strengths and areas for improvement. The goal is to provide families with a better understanding of where their child stands nationwide and how their child can continue to develop and find success on the baseball field.

During the tryout, players will perform in front of Baseball Factory coaches who will review their speed, pitching, hitting, defense and arm strength. Players will receive a verbal evaluation of their skills over the phone within 72 hours of the tryout.

Top players from the tryout may be selected to compete with Baseball Factory and Under Armour at the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City, the Baseball Factory Select Training at Vero Beach, or the Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona. These national team and training events will provide selected players with an unmatched baseball experience to continue their development.

Baseball Factory will also conduct an Interactive Video Program beginning at 9 a.m. on July 18 on Jack Pantelias Field at Seminole State College of Florida.

In addition to the above tryout benefits, players who attend the morning session will receive a professionally filmed & edited online video showing their performance at the tryout, a detailed written evaluation from our coaches which will include a prescription for future success, and a personal player web page that displays the player’s video footage and evaluation, which can be shared with family, friends and coaches. Players will also receive corrective videos with instruction on how to continue improving their game.

BASEBALL CAMPS

The Chaz Lytle Baseball Camp will be holding Youth Baseball Camps at the Orlando Baseball Lessons Facility in Longwood:

* July 24-26 from 8 a.m.-to-noon for ages 7-through-12.

* July 31-August 2 from 8 a.m.-to-noon for ages 12-and-up (High School Prep Workout).

The cost for each camp will be $105.

The Knights are slated to host FIU (Sept. 15) and Missouri (Sept. 29), along with East Carolina (Oct. 4), Southern Miss (Oct. 13), SMU (Nov. 3) and UAB (Nov. 24). The contest with Missouri marks the first time in school history UCF will host a school from the Southeastern Conference, as the Tigers will move from the Big 12 to the SEC this summer.

UCF asks all current season-ticket holders to renew by the April 30 deadline to retain their current seats, and they have the first right to request changes to their seat locations.
