Zimmerman returned to jail on Sunday after Judge Kenneth Lester revoked his $150,000 during a Friday hearing. Lester said Zimmerman and his wife Shellie Zimmerman deceived the court when they said they did not have any money available to pay bond during Zimmerman’s initial bond hearing.
It was discovered later that Zimmerman had raised $135,000 in a PayPal account run through his former website, www.TheRealGeorgeZimmerman.com. Recorded phone calls from the jail showed Zimmerman and his wife had spoke of the money before the original bond hearing.
Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara said his client’s failure to disclose the funds was “caused by fear, mistrust and confusion.” O’Mara also stated Zimmerman will have to work to repair his credibility.
During the Friday hearing, Judge Lester said Zimmerman would have a chance during his next bond hearing to explain himself.
Zimmerman is charged with the second-degree murder of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26. He has plead not-guilty, and claimed the shooting was in self-defense.
