SANFORD — The final, and what should be, the best of three Babe Ruth Baseball District Tournaments to be held in Sanford, the 15-Under Babe Ruth Division District 13 Tournament, will be held this weekend at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.

With the tournament field set and the threat of Tropical Storm Debby apparently diminishing over the next couple of days, the City of Sanford Recreation Services Department and the Sanford Babe Ruth Baseball League have announced the players and coaches for the Sanford team.

The Sanford 15-U squad will be managed by John Polk, with Greg Soto and Jose Ortiz serving as assistant coaches.

Making up the roster will be Jose Ortiz, Christian Schwarz, Joe Marino, Tim Watson, Darrell Coffie, Josh Mitchell, Jaycen Flannigan, Anthony Santiago, Alonzo Brundidge, Evan Schwarz, Damien Brown, Brady McAuley, Juwann McCall and Kevin Nelson.

The 3-Team Double Elimination Tournament will begin on Saturday (June 30) and extend through Tuesday (July 3) should the event have to go to the “If Necessary” Game.

There will be one game on Saturday with the host Sanford team facing the South Daytona All-Stars at 10 a.m. on the Rinker-Stenstrom Field turf at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.

There is a doubleheader scheduled for Sunday with the Flagler Beach All-Stars, who received a first round bye, taking on the Sanford/South Daytona winner at 10 a.m., followed by an elimination contest between Friday’s Game 1 loser and Saturday’s Game 2 loser at 1 p.m.

The remaining two teams will return on Monday for the Championship Game at 7 p.m.

If following that game, both teams have one loss; the winner-take-all finale would be held on Tuesday at 7 p.m. with the winner advancing to the State Tournament.

There is no admission to the tournament and all games will be played at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium located on Mellonville Avenue just North of Celery Avenue (13th Street).
