Church, community honors reverend at Christmas Gala

Greater New Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Cornelius Blue is the Pastor recently honored him at a Christmas Gala Celebration held Saturday evening at the Sanford Westside Community Center.

Mistress of Ceremony for the evening was Edna Scott Hunter. The audience sang the opening selection, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

Pastor Theron Stringer of Community House of Prayer gave the invocation and Deacon Jerry Tanner read the scripture. Welcome and occasion were given by Deaconess Lillian Rouse.

Musical Selection, “Silent Night” was sung by the audience and the Program Cordinator Sister Eartha Scott Joseph read the Proclamation, written by Commissioner Dr. Velma H. Williams of District Two, welcoming Pastor Blue to the Sanford Community and Kayla Moore rendered the solo “You are the Light.”

The speaker for the evening was introduced by Pastor Blue. After the introduction a praise dance was rendered by Allen’s Angels of Praise. The message for the evening was given by Pastor Jessie Brown of the Hope of Glory Church of Gainesville. He spoke on our devoted and inspiring Father. His scripture was Mathew 1:1-14 and his subject was, “The Reason for Christmas is the Spirit of Worship.” The message glorified the audience.

Musical renditions and a solo were by Pastor Stringer. Expressions of thanks were given by Deaconess Pauline Maner and Pastor Blue. Closing selections were “Sweet Sweet Spirit” and “We Wish You a Merry Chistmas.”

• Talented high school students are invited to attend a meeting Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Seminole County Library in downtown Sanford. Local students will compete in various areas of the arts and academics which include dance, music, business, public speaking, poetry and writing and drama.

ACT-SO, the Olympics of the mind is a competition sponsored by Seminole County NAACP.

• The Wilson Eichelberger Mortuary Staff presents their Annual Christmas Musical through Song and Dance, Dec. 21, 2011 at 7 p.m.

This event will feature soloists Cynthia Cassanova Brown and William Tillman, Jr.; the New Breed Dancers; and others.

The community is invited. The program will be held at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church at 1701 Bell Ave. in Sanford, Pastor Otis C. Raines
